Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant to Supply 330kt of Rails in 2017

Reportedly, since commissioning of its rail-and-structural steel mill, Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (part of Mechel) has produced 500kt of rails.

More than 90% of the total output were supplied to Russian Railways. In 2016 Russian Railways were supplied 270kt of steel rails, while in 2017 the supplies are planned to reach 330kt.

VTZ introduces new technology to improve stainless steel production efficiency

Volzhsky Pipe Plant, a branch of Pipe Metallurgical Company, has introduced a new technology to improve the efficiency of stainless steel production. The innovation helps to recover greater quantities of high-value alloying elements from scrap metal and to utilise raw materials more efficiently. Thanks to the new technology, it has become possible to more effectively recover residual chromium, nickel and molybdenum from high-alloy scrap. The number of "flushing" heats required to clean the furnace and steel casting ladles has also been reduced. The new scheme reduces ferroalloy consumption and improves the profitability of stainless steel rolled products output, as noted by TMK.
