Electrics/Automation Division Expands in Russia

The Electrics/Automation division of SMS group (a Metal-Expo regular exhibitor) is now represented in Russia. Headed by Alexey Kuydin, a team of ten staff members are in Russia to represent the products and services of our X-Pact® family. The new unit is based in the premises of SMS Metallurgical Service LLC, located in Chelyabinsk in the Urals, one of the steelmaking regions in a country that stretches over 17.1 million square kilometers.

Since the start of the year 2018 the E&A experts have been actively promoting SMS group X-Pact® electrical and automation system products and services in the Russian and CIS markets. This includes not only the engineering, manufacture, delivery, installation and commissioning, but also technical service and training.

The team there has already notched up its first positive results in the promotion of teleservice, technical assistance and plant equipment, as well as complex solutions for electrical and automation systems. Members of the Engineering team are working with their colleagues within the division on the modernization of the hot strip mill 2500 at Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK). The Russian Service staff members offer on-site teleservice and is responsible for providing technical assistance to Vyksa Steel and Severstal.

VTZ introduces new technology to improve stainless steel production efficiency

Volzhsky Pipe Plant, a branch of Pipe Metallurgical Company, has introduced a new technology to improve the efficiency of stainless steel production. The innovation helps to recover greater quantities of high-value alloying elements from scrap metal and to utilise raw materials more efficiently. Thanks to the new technology, it has become possible to more effectively recover residual chromium, nickel and molybdenum from high-alloy scrap. The number of "flushing" heats required to clean the furnace and steel casting ladles has also been reduced. The new scheme reduces ferroalloy consumption and improves the profitability of stainless steel rolled products output, as noted by TMK.
