Metallurgists from Rosatom have patented a technology for producing rods made from titanium alloys for medical applications

Chepetsk Mechanical Plant a company within Rosatom's Fuel Division in Glazov, Udmurtia, has patented its own technology for manufacturing rods from titanium and its alloys. The complexity of producing semi-finished rod products lies in the unique physical and chemical properties of titanium. To achieve the required characteristics, optimal processing modes and conditions were selected at all production stages. This new development will enable CMP to produce rods ranging from 5 to 15 mm in diameter with high dimensional accuracy, which is a critical requirement for medical-grade raw materials. The rods meet international standards for medical materials, including medical devices such as bone implants, dental prostheses, and surgical tools.

Currently, the main customer for these rod semi-finished products is Rosatom Implant (a subsidiary of LLC Rosatom MetallTech, an integrator within Rosatom's Fuel Division specializing in metallurgy). This company manufactures final products such as titanium implants for bone and intraosseous osteosynthesis, as well as tools for their implantation.

Rosatom's metallurgical divisions regularly showcase their unique developments at the Metal-Expo exhibition, which will be held in Saint Petersburg from November 11 to 14 this year. Rosatom will be located in Hall G.

VTZ introduces new technology to improve stainless steel production efficiency

Volzhsky Pipe Plant, a branch of Pipe Metallurgical Company, has introduced a new technology to improve the efficiency of stainless steel production. The innovation helps to recover greater quantities of high-value alloying elements from scrap metal and to utilise raw materials more efficiently. Thanks to the new technology, it has become possible to more effectively recover residual chromium, nickel and molybdenum from high-alloy scrap. The number of "flushing" heats required to clean the furnace and steel casting ladles has also been reduced. The new scheme reduces ferroalloy consumption and improves the profitability of stainless steel rolled products output, as noted by TMK.
