MMK-METIZ (part of MMK Group) has successfully launched production of a new type of metal product — cold-deformed wire with a three-sided periodic profile. The product is designed for reinforcing concrete structures.
The new Vr wire is manufactured in accordance with specially developed technical specifications (TU 24.34.11-253-00187240-2026). Its diameter ranges from 5 mm to 12 mm.
The key feature of the new MMK-METIZ product is its surface profile. Unlike smooth wire and Vr-1 class periodic profile wire manufactured in accordance with GOST 6727-80, the three-sided periodic profile wire has special ribs that increase the effective contact area between the profile and the concrete. When concrete is poured, this surface creates a “mechanical lock” effect, providing significantly stronger bonding (adhesion) between the metal and the concrete mix.
For construction companies, this means increased load-bearing capacity and crack resistance of reinforced concrete structures, a longer service life for buildings, bridges and road surfaces, as well as the possibility of optimising metal consumption without compromising strength.
“Tests have confirmed that the new products fully comply with the specified quality requirements, while their performance characteristics will enable our partners to build new infrastructure facilities,” said Alexey Stolyarov, Head of the Technology Centre at MMK-METIZ.
The wire is supplied in coils weighing from 1 to 3 tonnes. This weight is optimal for mechanised unwinding at modern construction sites and convenient for warehouse logistics. It also significantly reduces the time required to install the coil on unwinding equipment.
MMK-METIZ products will be available for a closer look very soon, on 16 September, during the 15th International Conference “WIRE – FASTENERS”, which will take place on 15–16 September in Magnitogorsk.
