Severstal Supplies Coversafe Superproof for Presidential Complex

Russian steel maker Severstal has supplied the Coversafe Superproof brand product for the construction of the Presidential Sports and Recreation Complex in Magadan, which is being built under the state program Development of Physical Culture and Sports and will become one of the largest in the Magadan Region in the Far East region of Russia. Severstal produced Coversafe Superproof rolled metal products in Graphite Gray by order of Frontside LLC, a manufacturer of facade systems. This product is used in the manufacture of an innovative modular system "FRONTTOP" for the design of 5 thousand square meters of the facade of the FOK "Presidential". This is the first experience of using Severstal's Coversafe Superproof brand in the FRONTTOP premium series during the cooperation between the companies.

The climate of Magadan is subarctic, with features of the marine monsoon. It is characterized by a significant content of chlorides in the air, a high wind load, and low winter temperatures. Ice chips cause accelerated abrasive wear of building facades. Coversafe Superproof is a polymer-coated metal product specially developed by Severstal for the production of sandwich panels and wall sheeting. It meets the demand for stability and reliable corrosion protection of rolled steel in a finished product. This is due to the aggressive and, at times, extreme climatic conditions of the region of construction and further operation of the sports facility. At the same time, the texture and color scheme of our branded rolled products meet the requirements of architects for the aesthetics of the building. Coversafe Superproof is resistant to the destructive effects of these factors due to its high mechanical strength and chemical resistance. Zinc coating class 275 provides reliable anti-corrosion protection of rolled steel. Severstal guarantees the absence of through corrosion of the metal base in such harsh conditions for at least 20 years. Under normal conditions, coatings of this class serve for at least 50 years.

Sports and recreation complex "Presidential" covers an area of 12,000 square meters. It will include a multipurpose hall for team sports, an ice arena for hockey players and figure skaters, and an eight-lane 25-meter pool. They will also equip a gym, a boxing and martial arts hall, a table tennis court, a sauna and a medical center. Up to 300 athletes will be able to exercise in the sports complex at the same time, the arenas are designed for 840 spectators. "Presidential" will become part of the complex development of the territory of the Pea Field on the banks of the Magadanka River.

VTZ introduces new technology to improve stainless steel production efficiency

Volzhsky Pipe Plant, a branch of Pipe Metallurgical Company, has introduced a new technology to improve the efficiency of stainless steel production. The innovation helps to recover greater quantities of high-value alloying elements from scrap metal and to utilise raw materials more efficiently. Thanks to the new technology, it has become possible to more effectively recover residual chromium, nickel and molybdenum from high-alloy scrap. The number of "flushing" heats required to clean the furnace and steel casting ladles has also been reduced. The new scheme reduces ferroalloy consumption and improves the profitability of stainless steel rolled products output, as noted by TMK.
