Severstal-Metiz launches production of heat-treated bar stock for mechanical engineering

The new product is in demand for the manufacture of parts operating under high torsional loads and requiring high reliability and durability. To ensure such properties, a heat improvement technology is applied. As a result of intensive cooling, quenching and subsequent tempering, the strength properties of the bar stock increase twofold, the yield strength increases threefold, and plastic properties and impact toughness are enhanced.

"Severstal-metiz is ready to offer mechanical engineering enterprises a unique product that makes it possible to obtain a finished part in a single operation — while reducing production costs by eliminating the quenching and tempering operation, excluding stocks of semi-finished billets and reducing the occurrence of defects. At the customer's request, we can supply structural alloy steels in the diameter range of 30–50 mm with through-hardening and uniform mechanical property values across the entire cross-section," said Sergei Kovryakov, General Director of Severstal-metiz LLC.

The use of already heat-treated rolled products will make it possible to eliminate the additional heat treatment operation for finished parts and the potential occurrence of such defects as quench distortion and warping, surface oxidation and decarburisation, and crack formation.

Severstal-metiz is an exhibitor at the Steel Structures'2026 exhibition, to be held from May 26 to 28 at Timiryazev Centre in Moscow. To become a participating company, please complete an application form.

VTZ introduces new technology to improve stainless steel production efficiency

Volzhsky Pipe Plant, a branch of Pipe Metallurgical Company, has introduced a new technology to improve the efficiency of stainless steel production. The innovation helps to recover greater quantities of high-value alloying elements from scrap metal and to utilise raw materials more efficiently. Thanks to the new technology, it has become possible to more effectively recover residual chromium, nickel and molybdenum from high-alloy scrap. The number of "flushing" heats required to clean the furnace and steel casting ladles has also been reduced. The new scheme reduces ferroalloy consumption and improves the profitability of stainless steel rolled products output, as noted by TMK.
