EVRAZ NTMK’s Channel Bars Used at Vostok Station in Antarctic

EVRAZ Nizhniy Tagil Integrated Metallurgical Plant (EVRAZ NTMK), a Metal-Expo regular exhibitor, produced its first 400,000 kg of the unique 20P channel bars with exceptional impact strength even in extremely low temperatures (-60°С), EVRAZ Holding Ural’s Corporate Communications Center reports.

‘These 20P channel bars have been made at the plant’s Heavy Mill Department and will be used for a winter-time living facility in Russia’s Vostok Station in the Antarctic, that is, in an extreme climatic environment. The bars have been delivered by EVRAZ Metal Inprom’s Moscow branch,’ the company says.

The company says that the rolled metal items were made from the special kind of steel (S355) that is known for exceptional impact strength and resistance to very low temperatures. The steel’s impact strength has been tested at -60°С and proved to be compatible with the customer’s demands and to be of good quality.
