Construction of a modern indoor ice rink in the Viya district of Nizhny Tagil is underway. The project is being implemented under an agreement on cooperation between the Government of the Sverdlovsk Region, the city Administration, and EVRAZ. Approximately 520 million rubles in the company’s tax contributions have been allocated for the construction.

Currently, the installation of steel structures and foundation preparation are in progress, and utility networks have been relocated. The facility is scheduled for completion in December 2026.

The arena, with a total area of 3,600 sq. m, will feature an ice rink measuring 60 by 30 metres with an artificial ice system, a lobby, cloakroom, four locker rooms for 25 people each with showers, skate sharpening and stick fitting rooms, a rental point, a coaching room, and a garage for the ice resurfacing machine.

“Building sports facilities is part of our long-term strategy to improve quality of life in the cities where EVRAZ operates. Since 2017, under partnership agreements with the region and the municipality, we have allocated more than 23.4 billion rubles in tax contributions to Nizhny Tagil for infrastructure and social projects. Today we continue this work, and the ice rink in Viya will be the next important step in developing the urban environment,” commented Denis Novozhenov, Vice President of EVRAZ and Head of the Ural Division.

In the coming years, construction will continue on a sports and recreation complex on Frunze Street, a cultural and educational centre in the Galyano-Gorbunovsky district, and repairs will be carried out at the Nizhny Tagil Philharmonic concert hall and a school. A Centre for Professional Competencies will be established on the basis of the Nizhny Tagil Mining and Metallurgical College and EVRAZ’s corporate training centre. Funds will also be directed toward the design, state expertise, and construction of a main road from the northern entrance to Nizhny Tagil (along the Yekaterinburg – Nizhny Tagil – Serov highway) to the fuel filling station complex.

Sports infrastructure as a major consumer segment for metal structures will be discussed during the conference “Steel Structures: Key Trends of 2026”, which will be held as part of the Steel Structures'2026 exhibition (May 26–28, Moscow, Timiryazev Centre).

VTZ introduces new technology to improve stainless steel production efficiency

Volzhsky Pipe Plant, a branch of Pipe Metallurgical Company, has introduced a new technology to improve the efficiency of stainless steel production. The innovation helps to recover greater quantities of high-value alloying elements from scrap metal and to utilise raw materials more efficiently. Thanks to the new technology, it has become possible to more effectively recover residual chromium, nickel and molybdenum from high-alloy scrap. The number of "flushing" heats required to clean the furnace and steel casting ladles has also been reduced. The new scheme reduces ferroalloy consumption and improves the profitability of stainless steel rolled products output, as noted by TMK.
