The Volgograd Branch of Severstal Kanaty JSC, part of the Severstal-metiz Group, has commissioned a new high-performance rope-making machine. The modern equipment is designed to manufacture 6-strand and 8-strand steel wire ropes weighing up to 20 tonnes.
The basket-type rope-making machine is equipped with an advanced carriage preforming and back-twist system, as well as an automatic strand tension control system. The new high-performance unit replaces an outdated machine previously used to manufacture medium- and large-diameter wire ropes.
Particular attention was paid to safety during the installation of the new equipment. The machine is fitted with modern protective guarding, emergency stop systems and safety interlocks that prevent operation when access to processing areas is open. Automation of key production processes reduces the amount of manual work and minimises personnel contact with moving components.
"The commissioning of the new Rope-Making Machine No. 110 is strategically important for the development of our Volgograd branch, one of Russia's largest manufacturers of wire and steel wire ropes. Growing market demand for high-quality medium- and large-diameter wire ropes has prompted us to continue modernising our production facilities," said Alexander Romanovich, Director of Severstal Kanaty JSC.
The new equipment will significantly increase wire rope production capacity, enabling the company to meet growing demand in both the Russian and international markets.
The modernisation of wire products manufacturing will be discussed during the 15th International Conference "WIRE – FASTENERS", which will be held in Magnitogorsk on 15–16 September.
