New Magnitogorsk Airport: Architectural Highlights

The large-scale modernisation of Magnitogorsk International Airport is entering a new phase! Construction of the new terminal complex for domestic flights has received a positive conclusion from Glavgosexpertiza of Russia.

What is being built? The new terminal will be a three-storey building, 16 metres high, with a total area of 6,100 square metres. It will be located to the north-east of the existing passenger infrastructure.

Capacity: The terminal is designed to handle 200 passengers per hour. Passenger traffic: Taking into account the growth in air travel, it will be able to serve up to 377,427 passengers per year. Design: The building's facades will evoke an associative link with the history of the airport, which was founded in 1930 to provide transport support for MMK. Amenities: The project includes boarding galleries with jet bridges (connecting at the second-floor level) and a fully barrier-free environment for passengers with reduced mobility.

International flights will continue to be handled at the existing terminal.

Total expenditure: 6.2 billion rubles. Source of funding: All costs are covered by the federal budget. Timeline: The full reconstruction of Magnitogorsk Airport is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

The facades of the three-storey building represent an architectural nod to the history of the airport, established in 1930 to support transport operations for MMK.

Transport and infrastructure projects will be discussed as part of the business programme at the Steel Structures'2026 exhibition, where the MMK Group is a longstanding participant.

VTZ introduces new technology to improve stainless steel production efficiency

Volzhsky Pipe Plant, a branch of Pipe Metallurgical Company, has introduced a new technology to improve the efficiency of stainless steel production. The innovation helps to recover greater quantities of high-value alloying elements from scrap metal and to utilise raw materials more efficiently. Thanks to the new technology, it has become possible to more effectively recover residual chromium, nickel and molybdenum from high-alloy scrap. The number of "flushing" heats required to clean the furnace and steel casting ladles has also been reduced. The new scheme reduces ferroalloy consumption and improves the profitability of stainless steel rolled products output, as noted by TMK.
